Prepare Your Application

Every year, over 35 million people choose to migrate to Canada to enjoy the many opportunities which Canada has to offer, including visiting family and friends.

The Canadian Permanent Resident (PR) Card allows you to work and move freely within Canada as a permanent resident, for as long as you wish.

There are many benefits of having the permanent resident status in Canada. Under the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, you have the right to live and work anywhere in Canada.

So long as you are a permanent resident, you have the ability to move freely throughout the country and pursue employment options in any area.

Another benefit of permanent residency is the ability to sponsor your family if you are in Canada. This can be a great option for bringing your spouse or child that may be residing in another country. If you give birth in Canada, that child will be given Canadian Citizenship.

Also, as a permanent resident you have unmetered access to Canada’s universal healthcare services.

While you are a permanent resident you are free to leave the country as you wish.

However, it is important to note that you must physically reside in Canada for at least 730 days for every 5 year period.

These 730 days can be spread throughout the 5 years and do not need to be consecutive. If you do not stay in Canada for the allotted time, you may have your permanent residency revoked.

When returning to Canada, you must present your permanent residency card to the visa officer, so it is important to carry it with you during your travels.
